Terms

Terms of Service

Last updated October 15, 2026

Pre-release information only. Public downloads and purchases are closed, and these terms are not being offered for acceptance yet.

Who we are and acceptance

LMM (Local Model Manager) is a Mac menu bar app for Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. These pre-release terms describe the planned product and are not currently being accepted. “You” means a person who uses LMM after public release.

Public downloads and purchases are not open. No agreement is being accepted through this page. If you use LMM for a business after release, you will need authority to do so on its behalf.

These draft terms describe the LMM app, the website at localmodelmanager.com and the planned licence service. The Privacy Policy and Refund Policy pages are related pre-release information.

Your licence

When you start a trial or buy a plan, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited licence to install and use LMM on up to the number of Macs your plan covers (1, 2 or 5). LMM is licensed to you, not sold. We keep every right we have not expressly given you.

LMM is closed-source software. Your licence key is personal to you, so keep it private, the way you would a password. You may not:

  • copy, modify or build on LMM, except as the law allows;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble LMM, or try to get at its source code, except where the law says you may despite this rule;
  • share, post, sell, rent, lend or sublicense your licence key or .lmmlicense file;
  • remove or work around the licence checks, activation limits or Mac limits.

Free trial

LMM includes a free 7-day trial for every plan. It starts the first time you open the app, and no card is needed.

During the trial you can use every feature. When it ends, the live menu keeps working and the paid features lock until you buy a plan. Nothing renews on its own.

Plans, payment and renewal

LMM is sold as Monthly, Annual or One-time, each for 1, 2 or 5 Macs. Prices are in US dollars. Checkout shows the plan, price and terms before you pay.

  • Monthly and Annual renew automatically each period until you cancel.
  • One-time is a single payment. It does not renew, and the licence has no expiry date.

Payments are processed by Stripe Checkout. We do not see or store your full card number, and Stripe’s own terms apply to your payment. You can cancel or update your card at any time in the Stripe customer portal. Cancelling stops future renewals. Your licence keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, then it lapses.

Promotional codes are entered at checkout and apply to your first payment. Monthly and Annual then renew at the regular price. Codes can change or end at any time and have no cash value. Prices may change for future purchases.

After checkout your licence key appears on screen, and you can download it as a .lmmlicense file. Keep a copy somewhere safe.

Activation and seats

LMM activates on each Mac where you use it. Activation sends our licence service a one-way hash of that Mac (made from its hardware identifier plus an app-specific salt), not the raw identifier. Activation is refused beyond the number of Macs in your plan.

  • A headless Mac mini or Mac Studio counts as one Mac.
  • A paired host counts as one seat.
  • To free a seat, choose “Deactivate This Mac” in Settings. You can then activate a different Mac.

LMM renews its activation about every 30 days by contacting the licence service. If your Mac is offline, LMM keeps working for up to 14 days of grace. LMM checks licence signatures on your Mac.

When a trial or licence ends

When a trial or licence ends, LMM keeps the live menu working: memory use, loaded models and unloading them. The paid features are locked: the Planner, Checkup fixes, host mode for headless Macs, and observer history and drops. Each one shows a button to enter a licence.

Your own models and model servers are separate products on your Mac. Ending a licence does not change them.

You can stop using LMM at any time. We may suspend or end your licence if you break these terms (for example by sharing your key or working around the Mac limit) or if the law requires it. Any terms that should continue after a licence ends will be stated in the final terms.

Refunds

A 30-day money-back guarantee is planned for purchases after launch. The planned details are in the Refund Policy section on this page.

In short: email [email protected] from the address you used at checkout. Refunds go back to your original payment method through Stripe. A refund revokes your licence key.

What LMM does and its limits

LMM runs on your Mac (macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon). It shows which local AI models and context sizes are likely to fit your Mac and looks for bottlenecks. LMM asks for your approval before it changes anything. Fixes it labels safe can be undone.

Numbers in LMM, such as speeds and memory use, are estimates, and each one is labelled with its basis. A speed test in the app gives you the real number. Results vary by Mac, model and settings, and an estimate can be wrong.

LMM is a guide, not a guarantee, and it is not a substitute for your own judgment. Before you download large models, free up disk space or change settings, decide whether the change is right for you. You are responsible for the changes you approve.

Model servers, models and tools from others

LMM works with Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp and MLX servers. These are separate products made by other people. They have their own terms, and we do not control, host or support them.

The models you run are separate too. Each model has its own licence, and some limit commercial use or add other conditions. You are responsible for reading and following them. LMM showing that a model fits your Mac does not mean you may use it for your purpose.

LMM does not run or host your prompts. A prompt goes only to the model server you choose: this Mac, a paired Mac, an endpoint you set up, or a cloud model you connect. You are responsible for that server, your network and who can reach it. We also rely on Stripe (payments), Cloudflare (hosting and the licence service) and Sparkle (app updates), and their terms apply to their services.

Your data and privacy

Your prompts, conversations and files never come to us. LMM has no telemetry. Its logs stay on your Mac and do not contain message content, file contents, licence keys, pairing codes or tokens.

Our licence service holds a licence ID, your plan, seats, term and expiry, a hash of your purchase email and activation records (hashes of your Macs). Stripe holds your payment details. The Privacy Policy section on this page explains this and the network calls LMM makes, and it is part of these terms.

As between you and us, you own your prompts, your files and what you create with your models. We do not receive them and do not claim rights in them.

Acceptable use

Please use LMM lawfully and fairly. Do not:

  • use LMM to break the law or anyone’s rights, or to break a model’s licence or a tool’s terms;
  • share, resell or publish your licence key, or use a key that was shared with you;
  • avoid or interfere with activation, licence checks, Mac limits or the update and feed services;
  • pair with, or send prompts to, a Mac or server you do not have permission to use;
  • overload, probe or attack our website, licence service or feed.

Updates and changes to the app

LMM checks for app updates daily using Sparkle, and you can turn automatic updates off. LMM also downloads feed updates of model and benchmark data. Updates may fix bugs, add or change features, or change the data behind LMM’s estimates.

We may change, add or remove features, plans and prices, and we may stop supporting an older version of macOS. We may pause the licence service or the feed for maintenance. We do not promise that they will always be available. The offline grace described under Activation and seats helps LMM keep working if the licence service cannot be reached.

Intellectual property and trademarks

LMM, including its software, design, text, data and branding, belongs to us or our licensors. These terms give you a licence to use it, not ownership of it.

Apple and Mac are trademarks of Apple Inc. Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp, MLX, Stripe, Cloudflare, Sparkle and other product names belong to their owners. We name them to describe what LMM works with. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Apple or any of these companies.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything. We do not claim ownership of your own content.

Disclaimers and limit of liability

LMM is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise that LMM’s estimates are accurate, that it will find every bottleneck, that it will work with every Mac, server or model, or that it will run without errors or interruptions.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data or lost time, arising from your use of LMM, third-party servers or models, or your own decisions.

Our total liability for any claim about LMM is limited to the amount you paid us for LMM in the 12 months before the claim arose (for a One-time licence, the amount you paid for it). If you have paid us nothing, our total liability is limited to US $100. Some places do not allow some of these limits, so they apply only as far as the law permits. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Indemnity

This indemnity clause is part of the pre-release draft and has not been reviewed for release.

Governing law and disputes

This pre-release draft does not specify a governing-law state or court forum.

Before you start a formal claim, please email [email protected] so we can try to resolve it informally. Nothing in these terms takes away consumer rights that the law does not let you give up.

Changes to these terms, and contact

These terms will be reviewed before they are offered for acceptance. No agreement is being accepted through this pre-release page.

This page is a pre-release draft and is not being offered for acceptance. The final terms will be reviewed before public purchases open.

Privacy

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 15, 2026

This planned policy describes how the app is designed to handle information.

The short version

  • LMM runs on your Mac. Your prompts, conversations and files never come to us.
  • LMM has no telemetry.
  • By default, LMM stores only conversation sizes, timings and app names, on your Mac. It saves message text only if you turn that on, and it is off by default.
  • We hold only what we need to sell, check and support licences.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising.

Who we are

LMM (Local Model Manager) is a Mac menu bar app for macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon. This pre-release policy describes how the app is designed to handle information. “LMM” means the app and the website at localmodelmanager.com.

This policy covers the app, our website and our checkout. It does not cover the model servers you connect LMM to, which are other people’s products.

What stays on your Mac

  • By default, LMM records conversation sizes, timings and app names. It uses them to show which models and context sizes fit your Mac and to find bottlenecks.
  • Message text is saved only if you turn on the separate setting for it. That setting is off by default.
  • Your licence key, activation token, pairing identity and paired-host fingerprints are kept in the macOS Keychain.
  • Logs stay on your Mac and do not contain message text, file contents, licence keys, pairing codes or tokens.

App data lives in the folder ~/Library/Application Support/LocalModelManager/. We cannot see it.

If you turn message saving on, the text is stored on your Mac with the rest of the app’s data. LMM does not send it to us.

Where your prompts go

LMM works with Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp and MLX servers. A prompt goes only to the model server you choose: this Mac, a paired Mac, an endpoint you set up yourself, or a cloud model you connect. It does not pass through us.

That server’s own terms and privacy policy apply to what you send it. If you point LMM at an endpoint run by another company, read that company’s policy first. Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp and MLX are separate products with their own terms.

Connections LMM makes

This list describes connections made by the app. A server that receives a connection can see your IP address.

  • Model and benchmark updates: the app downloads the knowledge feed to your Mac.
  • Licence activation and renewal: the app sends its licence key and a hash of the Mac to the licence service. Activation renews about every 30 days; the app has up to 14 days of offline grace.
  • Update checks: Sparkle checks for updates daily. You can turn automatic updates off.
  • Paired Macs: paired hosts connect directly over your own network.
  • Provider-policy checks: only when you start one, the app makes anonymous, read-only requests to public provider-policy pages.
  • Your own local servers: the app makes read-only requests to model servers running on your Mac to show their status.

What we hold about customers

To sell, check and support licences, we hold:

  • Licence ID, plan (Monthly, Annual or One-time), number of Macs (seats), term and expiry date.
  • A hash of your purchase email, stored in your licence.
  • Activation records, one for each activated Mac, stored as a hash of the Mac and not a raw hardware identifier.

We use this information to issue licences, check them when the app activates or renews, revoke a licence when it is refunded, and answer your emails. We do not use it for advertising or to build profiles of you.

Stripe handles your payment details. We do not see or store full card numbers.

We also keep the messages you send to [email protected] so that we can reply and, if needed, process a refund.

Our website and checkout

Our website is hosted on Cloudflare, which also runs our licence service. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your request when you visit and sees technical details such as your IP address.

Checkout is run by Stripe Checkout. It shows the plan, price and terms before you pay, and Stripe collects your payment details under its own privacy policy. After checkout, your licence key appears on screen and can be downloaded as a .lmmlicense file. You can cancel or update a card through the Stripe customer portal.

We do not use advertising cookies or social-media tracking pixels on our website.

Who we share data with

  • Stripe: payments, renewals, the customer portal and refunds.
  • Cloudflare: hosting for our website and licence service.

We do not sell your data, rent it or share it for advertising, and LMM has no ads. We may disclose information if the law requires it, limited to what is required.

How long we keep data

We keep licence and activation records while a licence is active. Data on your Mac stays there until you delete it.

Stripe handles payment records under its own policies. For questions about licence and activation information, email [email protected].

Security

Your licence key, activation token and pairing identity sit in the macOS Keychain. Signatures on feeds and licences are checked on your Mac. Connections between paired Macs use TLS encryption, and the app remembers each paired Mac’s fingerprint.

We keep what we hold small: hashes instead of raw identifiers, and no card numbers. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection.

Your choices and rights

  • Updates: turn automatic updates off.
  • Message text: leave saving off, or turn it off again if you turned it on.
  • Your Macs: use “Deactivate This Mac” in Settings to free a seat.
  • App data: quit LMM, move the app to the Trash, then delete the LocalModelManager folder and the LMM items in Keychain Access to remove the data it stored there. Display preferences, such as your last screen, are kept in macOS’s standard app preferences.
  • Your information: email us to ask for a copy of, a correction to, or deletion of what we hold about you. We may ask you to write from the address you used at checkout so we know it is you.

For questions about privacy or information handled by LMM, email [email protected].

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date shows which version is current. If a change affects how we handle your information, we will make that clear on this page.

Refunds

Refund Policy

Last updated October 15, 2026

A 30-day money-back guarantee is planned for purchases after launch. Purchases are not open yet.

Our guarantee

A 30-day money-back guarantee is planned for every purchase after launch. If LMM is not right for you, you will be able to ask for a refund within 30 days from purchase.

This policy covers monthly, annual and one-time purchases made through checkout on localmodelmanager.com. It applies to every plan, whether the licence is for 1, 2 or 5 Macs.

The 7-day free trial

When public downloads open, every plan is planned to include a 7-day in-app trial. It will start the first time you open LMM and will not need a card.

The planned 30-day guarantee will run from the day you buy.

How to ask for a refund

Email [email protected] from the address you used at checkout. That lets us match your request to your purchase.

Tell us which purchase you mean: the plan (monthly, annual or one-time) and the date you bought it.

How a refund is issued

  • Refunds go through Stripe to the original payment method.
  • The licence key is revoked when a refund is issued.
  • The app then returns to its free features, including the live menu for memory and loaded models. Planner, Checkup fixes, host mode, observer history and drops are locked until you have a licence again.

Renewals and cancelling

Monthly and annual plans renew until you cancel. To cancel, use the Stripe customer portal before your renewal date. Cancelling stops future renewals, and your licence keeps working until the end of the period you already paid for.

Cancelling on its own does not refund a charge you have already paid. To ask for a refund, follow the steps above.

If you think a renewal charge should be refunded, email us and name the charge, and we will look at it.

One-time purchases

A one-time purchase is a single payment with no renewal, and the licence has no expiry. It has the same 30-day money-back guarantee as every other purchase.

If we refund a one-time purchase, the licence key is revoked like any other.

Taxes and fees

Prices are in US dollars, and checkout shows the plan, price and terms before you pay. Promotional codes are entered at checkout.

If you have a question about tax or a fee on a specific charge, email us and name the purchase.

Chargebacks

If something is wrong with a charge, please email us first. A refund request to us is a direct way to put it right.

You can contact your bank at any time. We would simply like the chance to fix the problem with you before a dispute is opened.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page with a new date at the top.

Questions about a refund: [email protected].
